Exciting Vegetarian Events and Festivals around the World

Part of the fun of being a vegetarian is that there are so many of us around the world! Meeting up to learn new vegetarian recipes, try delicious restaurants, and learning more about food is a great way to get new ideas on vegetarian living.  Events and festivals geared towards the vegetarian & vegan community are the perfect way to learn more about food and meet friends worldwide!

There are TONS of events and festivals to choose from, but here is a quick list of some of the worlds top vegetarian & vegan festivals.

 

March 2nd and 3rd, 2013 – New York Vegetarian Food Festival 

March 2nd & 3rd has come and gone but this is a great festival to keep on your list if you’ve missed it this year. We attended in 2012 and had a great time! At this festival, you’ll find speakers giving presentations and conducting discussions about all topics of interest to vegetarians; nutrition, urban gardening, raw food, yoga and so much more.

VegFest UK – multiple dates and locations in the United Kingdom

The UK is home to a major multi-event celebration of vegetarian food and lifestyle! This year there are three separate vegetarian events. In addition to vendors, there will be cooking demonstrations, samples, speed dating, live music, comedy, and unique competitions like a vegan bodybuilders’ contest.

October 2013 (Dates TBD) – Phuket Vegetarian Festival

This is a nine day festival that is held every year in Phuket. The festival is put on by the Chinese/Thai community in celebration of a tradition to abstain meat and other stimulants during the Chinese calendar’s ninth lunar month. Not only is there an abundance of incredible vegetarian food specially prepared for this unique festival, but there are also exciting spectacles such as firewalking, body piercing, fireworks and tributes to the Hindu god Shiva.

April 6, 2013 – Texas VegFest – Austin Texas

Austin’s thriving vegetarian community puts on this one day, family-friendly vegetarian event. There will be speakers, demonstrations, lots of samples and a whole lot of fun!!

May 18 and 19, 2013 – The Seed – NYC

This popular festival brings the NYC vegan community together, by sharing innovative plant-based products and services, speakers, thought leaders, athletes, and more!

August 10 – 11, 2013 Veggie Fest Chicago

This large vegetarian event is held just a short drive away from Chicago. Over 25,000 people showed up in 2012, making this vegetarian festival one of the biggest in the world! There are demonstrations, speakers, music, samples, and lots of like-minded people to meet! Free admission too.

September 6– 8, 2013, Vegetarian Food Festival – Toronto

Admission to this festival is free. Explore Toronto’s best vegetarian and vegan cuisine. There will also be discussions and demonstrations at this massive vegetarian event, which claims to be the largest in the world.

May 19 and October 8, 2013 – Vegan Street Day – Stuttgart and Dortmund Germany

Join this celebration held twice a year in Germany to experience the best of German vegan cuisine, offerings from vegan companies, presentations, and more.

Farms 2 Forks – Many dates and locations

This exciting tour of “plantstrong” enthusiast promotes a holistic farm to fork philosophy. The group puts on vegetarian events across the US to help us understand how vegetarian food journeys from farm to fork.

October 12, 2013 – Paris Vegan Day

Though it is hard to imagine French food without eggs, cream, and butter, there is a thriving vegan community in Paris. This festival celebrates the very best of it and is held at the beautiful Docks-Cité de la Mode et du Design in the heart of Paris.
